Hola! I'm Deana Muñoz, MOT, an occupational therapist (OT) who graduated from Colorado State University in May of 2021 with a Master's of Occupational Therapy and a passion for occupational justice and culturally responsive care, particularly in the realm of mental healthcare. I'm now over two years into my practice with kids and families and currently work at a private clinic in Loveland, CO. I adore each and every one of my pediatric clients, an age range which includes my absolute favorites - teens! Pediatric mental and behavioral care is an area of learning I've embraced in my current role, as well as feeding, trauma-informed care, and executive function skill development. As a neurodiversity affirming professional, I promise to continue to learn as much from my Autistic and other neurodivergent kids as they do from me. Nothing about them without them! I am STAR certified in using sensorimotor-based interventions for sensory processing health and wellness and am continuing my education in primitive reflex integration. My clinical experience includes inpatient me ntal health for adults and adolescents, memory care, community based group development, and sensory-based pediatric outpatient services. My practice is child-led and focuses on building foundational skills for success in all of life's activities. More on a day in the life of a peds OT here!
I believe OT has the power to transform how we imagine health, wellness, and recovery. By considering people as whole, capable beings, OTs can teach, adapt, and motivate those we work with to participate in meaningful activities of daily life in order to live their lives more fully. We advocate for and with people not just on an individual level, but in our communities and broader society to envision an inclusive way of life that considers accessibility first, not as an afterthought.
A profession in OT called me from my first post-grad career track in nonprofit development and food justice, where I saw far too many of my clients suffering not just from food insecurity, but the chronic health issues brought on by more systemic problems such as poverty, no access to preventative care, and a lack of health literacy. No matter what the practice setting, OTs use personal therapeutic connections with their clients to determine how best to support their unique goals related to health and wellness. I'm excited to join this profession of caring and healing and I'm happy you're here!
