Volunteer & Community Work
The photos below are from the Women's March in Washington, D.C., volunteering for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, working with Gay for Good and Tree Pittsburgh, and building a community garden in partnership with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers in Florida. Occupational therapists often work with populations that experience discrimination, food or housing insecurity, and lack of access to services. Deana believes it is necessary to engage with her community outside of work in order to build relationships and more deeply understand the people and populations she provides care to. Most recently, as president of the Student Occupational Therapy Association and founding member of Colorado State University's DiverseOT program, she helped to create community partnerships with local organizations and continue her community service through volunteering.
